This article outlines how to create and request custom areas for use in AgencyCloud 

It contains details on how to use Google Maps to draw areas, how to edit drawn areas and how to save and request the addition of these to your setup


1.

Opening the map creator

Access Google Maps menu

From

your preferred internet browser, navigate to www.scribblemaps.com
This will display the pictured home page
  • Click Create Map
  • 2. Drawing the area

    Once you've opened the map creator you'll be met with a global map:

    • In the pictured search area, type the name of the location you wish to create an area for and press enter

    You can use the options at the bottom right of the map to change how the map is displayed, i.e. hybrid, road, satellite or terrain

    Click the Hand Tool and drag the map to get a good view of the desired location
    Click the Polygon Tool
    A single click of the left mouse will begin the drawing of the line (shown in the second screenshot), a second

    an internet browser:

    • Access Google Maps

    • Click menu button top left

      The Google Maps menu will be displayed on left, see next step

    2. Access create map option

    From the Google Maps menu:

    • Click Your places


    From the Your places menu:

    • Click MAPS (top right)

    • Click CREATE MAP
      (bottom of menu bar)

      A new tab will be opened in your browser allowing you to create a new map, see next step

    3. Create new map

    • Use the search bar (top left of map) to enter the name/postcode area of the area you want to draw

    • Click the Search button (or press enter)


    4. Prepare the map & access draw options

    • Position the map to view the required area
      • Click and drag the map to move it
      • Use the zoom in/out buttons (or mouse wheel)

    • Click Draw a line button

      Your mouse pointer will change to + , ready to start drawing the required area
      If you need to move the map again, click the Select items button (hand icon)

    5. Draw area

    • Click once with the left mouse button to start drawing the area

    • A second click will end the first and begin the second line
    .

    • Continue to draw the shape

    • When drawing

    - This tool can be used to create any shape to cover the required area

    • first marker will join up the shape and offer the option to name it

    • All properties contained within the border and its shaded area will be attributed to the area
    - You should aim to avoid the outside lines being placed on a road
    For example, the area on the right starts with a section of Lode Lane and, in order to get all properties on that section of the road inside the area, the border line must be drawn past the road,

    • Draw border lines just past the edge of a road/street, rather than on it

    • - this ensures that
    the
    • properties on
    the
    • that road are definitely included within the
    highlighted
    • drawn area (and will therefore be included in any matches carried out for that area)

    6.

    Editing the captured area

    The shape drawn can be edited using the Edit/Measure tool:

    Click the Edit/Measure Tool 
    The white handles on the borders can be used to further manipulate the area
  • Clicking and dragging the border will move the shape as a whole
  • 4. Saving the area

    Once you're happy with the area, it will need to be saved as a KML file:

    Click Menu > Save KML
    In the Save Map screen you will need to enter the Map ID, Title and Description, lastly clicking Save Map
    This will present a Map Saved screen, click Continue Working and close the Save Map screen
    Click Menu and then Save KML again, this will start a download of the KML file
    This download will appear in the bottom left of the browser (can differ based on the browser) and will be saved in your Downloads folder, right-click on the file and select show in folder to immediately be taken to this file location
    Now that you have the file, you can create a case via the Service Portal, attaching

    Save area

    When completing an area, the save screen will be automatically displayed

    • Enter the name of the area

    • Click Save

      The toolbar on the left of the screen will display the map name

    7. Continue drawing areas

    When more than one area is required, these can be drawn as another layer within the same map

    • Follow step 4 again to position the map then select the Draw a line tool

    • Draw then save the next required area, as outlined in steps 5 & 6Image Added
      Each saved layer is listed in the panel to the left of the screen
      Click Untitled layer to change the name for the group of area layers
      The main name for the map can be changed too, click the label top left (titled Maps in the example above)


    8. Export the map

    From the panel top left:

    • Click the button to the right of the main map title

    • Select Export to KML/KMZ

    9. Download as KML

    • Select Export as KML instead of KMZ option

    • Click Download

      The .kml file will be downloaded and may be shown at the bottom of your browser window and will be available in your Downloads folder ready to send to Reapit Support, see next step


    10. Send map to Reapit Support

    • Click here to access the Service Portal and log a ticket, make sure you attach the KML file to the ticket

      This will be picked up by the Reapit Service Control team who will add the area and confirm once done

    Saved maps can be edited - follow steps 1-2 above and, when clicking Your places, any saved maps will be displayed in the side panel, click the map name to re-launch and edit
