Ignore duplicate contacts in bulk

This guide has been reviewed against our global client base and classed as relevant to all regions

Available from version 12.195

No configuration is required for this update - however, being able to ignore a duplicate contact is dependent on configuration (which is given when enabled to merge duplicate contacts)

For more information on how to identify duplicate contacts, including how to ignore and merge contacts, plus related configuration options, click here:

Multiple duplicate contacts can be marked as ignored on the Contact Merges & Duplicates screen - this update means multiple duplicate contacts can marked as ignored in bulk (rather than having to access each duplicate record individually)

A potential duplicate is identified when at least one phone number and/or email address is detected on more than one contact record - choosing to ignore a duplicate contact prevents the contact record from being flagged as a duplicate

From contact record - first, ignore the duplicate contact as ignored:

  • Right-click the duplicate alert icon and click Ignore duplicate contact

    Contact - ignore original contact.png
  • Enter the reason for ignoring the duplicated contact

    Contact - ignore duplicates - reason.png
  • The alert icon is greyed out to show this contact is ignored, now click Merge/Duplicates to view the other contacts which are duplicated with this contact

An Ignore button has been added to the Contact Merges & Duplicates screen:

  • Use the tick boxes on the left to choose which duplicates to ignore
(or use the box top left to select all)

  • Click Ignore

  • Enter the reason for ignoring the duplicated contacts

  • The ignored duplicates are now marked as ignored with the Ignore Reason also displayed

As a result of ignoring the duplicates:

  • After saving & closing the contact record, when re-accessing the record a numeric flag is no longer displayed on the Merges/Duplicates button
